Don't you always hate it when you have a machine designed with wear-parts that cost a fortune to replace? Well Sunshine Sugar sure do. They have a machine that removes unwanted packaging from sugar products up to 100,000 times a day, only the arms that remove the packaging need replacing regularly, and the OEM supplier is charging a cool $1400 ($1000 US) for the privilege.

The Technology

Witt energy recovery system cross section of gears and pendulum
WITT Energy have engineered a renewable energy recovery system to generate electricity from the oceans ebb and flow. It is capable of harvesting energy from all six degrees of motion by using a pendulum system and a complex gearing set up! The gearing converts all of the pendulum movements into a single rotation of a shaft which drives a flywheel (as seen here) and in turn an alternator/generator device.

Solar Roadways, is it doable?

An Idaho based company has come up with a novel product to make our roads safer; the solar roadway. This takes the standard solar panel and re-engineers it to become a durable, truck proof, self-illuminated paving block capable of replacing the standard asphalt we see everywhere.
The solar roads are designed with benefits over traditional concrete and asphalt, such as in-built LEDs for safety, pot-hole free (that one’s a big plus!), easy maintenance, protects wildlife and of course due to the generated electricity, a return on investment.
