Potential Energy Calculator

Potential energy is one of the two prominent types of energy that exist in the universe. This type of energy is quite straightforward. It is a kind of an energy, which has the potential to do work, but it does not do any work actively. In other words, potential energy is not applying force on an object. Therefore, you can call it as the energy of position as well. For moving objects please check out our Kinetic Energy Calculator.

Potential Energy Equation

You can use a potential energy calculator to calculate the potential energy of an object. The tool will be able to calculate potential energy based on three parameters. They include:
  • The mass of an object
  • The height of an object
  • Gravitational acceleration exerted on it (which is 9.81 m/s²).
The equation to calculate potential energy is as follows:

Potential energy Equation: Potential Energy equals Mass times Gravity times Height
Where:
PE = Potential Energy of the object
m = Mass of object
 g = Gravitational Acceleration of the Object

Gravitational Potential Energy = Mass of the object x Height of the object x Gravitational Field Strength
PE gravity = m x g x h
This is quite a simple and a straightforward formula. But if you don’t want to do calculations on your own, all you have to do is to use our formula. Then you can calculate potential energy with ease.
